Hi Folks

Wondering if anyone else has had this problem.

'Xanthelasma is often seen in people with high cholesterol or other fat (lipid) levels in the blood, and the lesions contain deposits that are high in fat (lipid-rich).'

(Couldn't get picture to work on here but there's lots on google images)

I have just starting getting these deposits round my upper eyelid having been on steriods for 6 months and Humira for 3 months. Having read round the subject it seems to be one of the rarer side effects from prednisolone - in that they can increase your 'fat/cholesterol' levels. Although it appears that Humira can too and so can having an underactive thyriod (all of which I have!). I am wondering if is more likely to be the steriods, as I don't think I've been on the Humira long enough.

At the moment it is not too much of a problem, as make up will cover it!! But I am interested to know if anyone has heard of this problem before. My GP got a book off his shelf (written by local consultant I'd seen the day before with my son) and showed me the pictures so I could see that was what it is! (very impressed). I am not doing anything about it now... but will keep bringing down the steriods!!!

Would love any comments.

Anne

Def keep a watch on it though. Good luck

Hello Anne
My sister has had these for ages but she has fibro not RA, not on steroids but a whole bag of painkillers. They've never come with a definitive answer as to why but probably cholesterol? I do know she paid a fortune to have them removed once but they came back just the same after a time. Sorry, probably not the news you were looking for!
